The Palma Boat Show will grow 15% next year

The Director General of the Department of Trade and Industry, Lourdes Cardona, had a meeting this morning with the Organizing Committee Of the Palma Boat Show to assess the last edition, in which the public and private sectors collaborated for the first time, and to talk about plans for the next year.

This event, which celebrated its 30th edition this year and which managed to place itself as the most important show on a national level and third most important at an European level, has with this success secured continuity. “The change of format has been a success which has strenghtened the whole industry and local businesses related to the nautical sector, as well as the complimentary services”, Lourdes Cardona pointed out.

The aim is to create a show attractive to all and to help the nautical sector of the islands to generate activity, while trying to make the show self financing.
Not having yet closed the final accounts of the 30th edition of the Show, the Council of Economy and Competitiveness expect to obtain a moderate result. The department , lead by Joaquin Garcia, and the rest of the organization have agreed to use these funds to improve the promotion of the next edition.

The last Show had 136 stands from 320 companies. The extensión of the port will allow the next edition, which will be be celebrated in the beginning of May 2014, to grow about 15%. The space will be distributed to make room for more large yachts.

This year there were 42 “superyachts”, and next time the organizers hope to increase their share. At the moment, the Palma show has the largest number of “superyachts” compared to any other show in Europe. When it comes to the smaller yachts, in the last edition there were 87 boats. It is estimated that next year we will have approximately 110, as there will be an additional quay available.
