Recreational Yacht Market Report / January-June 2013

ANEN has just finished editing the Market Report of recreational yachts corresponding to the first half of 2013, with an analysis of the data obtained from the Direction General of the Merchant Navy. You can consult this report at h http://www.anen.es/index.php?op=menu&mid=5&smid=50

The first half of 2013 presents a negative result of national volume of registrations showing a fall of 28%, compared to the first half of the year 2012, according to the report, main findings of which we´ll explain in continuation.
National market data regarding the recreational yachts

Between January and June 2013, 1.990 recreational yachts were registered in Spain, compared to the 2.760 registered in the same period in 2012, which means a fall of 28%. The numbers related to June shows even a worse tendency with a fall of 34% with respect to June 2012.
By the type of boats, all markets fell heavily in the first half of 2013, being the semirigid inflatables with the worst results (-40,5%), followed by sail (-36,32%), jet skis (-33,43%) and the folding inflatables (-18,75%).

The motor boats continue to be the most demanded and represent 50,1% of the market, in the second place are the semirigid inflatables with a share of 15,9%, in the third place the folding inflatables that hold 15% share of the market, followed by jet skis with 11,8% and last sailing boats with a 7,1% share of the market.

By length, boats up to 8 m fell by 27% between January and July 2013 compared to the same period in 2012, although they continue to be the market leaders with a share of 89,8%. The lengths between 8-12 meters experienced the biggest fall at -42,2%, and occupy a market share of 7,24%.

Only the lengths above 12 meters fell more moderately (-9,2% overall) and represent 3% of the market.

The charter market shows a fall of 22,2%, breaking an upward trend of the past year. The smallest boats, up to 8 m, have been the most demanded for charter in this period, although 23,53% less have been registered compared to the same period last year.

In the category between 12-16 meters, a total of 19 boats have been registered for charter, 5 less than in 2012, while 4 boats above 16 meter have been registered, one more than in the same period last year.

The recreational yacht market by provinces

The Balearic Islands are the market leaders with a 14,07% share, but with a fall of registrations by 17,65% in the first half of 2013. Barcelona occupies the second place with 9,4% share, despite the fall of registrations by 54,28%. In the third place is Girona with a 9,05% share of the market and an increase in registrations by 13,21%.

Cadiz has experienced a fall of 34,18% in the registrations in this half year, it is the province that occupies the fourth place in the statistics with a market share of 6,48%. Behind are Madrid with a share 6,03% and a fall of registrations by 19,46%, Malaga with a share of 5,63% and a fall of registrations by 33%, Alicante with a share of 5,33% and a fall of 30,72%, and A Coruña with a share of 4,42% and a fall in registrations by 27,87%.
