Letter from the president - April 2014

The 30th of this month will see the start of our most important nautical event of the year: the Palma International Boat Show, an event that aspires to become an example to follow in the Mediterranean, and a showcase of the excellence of our companies.

Some weeks prior to the show, the second edition of the national Nautical Congress organized by ANEN will take place in Barcelona. We will participate together with some of our associates, and hope to repeat the good experience of last year. We shouldn’t forget either about the ninth edition of the Nautical Cuttlefish Fair, which will take place in the port of Alcúdia next weekend. It will be a great experience for all yachting enthusiasts and friends of good food.

In less than a month the 31st edition of the Palma International Boat Show, possibly the most important event for the Balearic nautical companies, will take place. We witnessed already in the last edition how the project - conceived to a great degree by our association and by the input of our associates, managed to refloat the Show. It turned into an event capable of  attracting the attention of both exhibitors and professionals, as well as clients and  general public, and this year we expect to be able to continue building on these bases to make it an example to follow not only on a national level, but also in the whole of the Mediterranean. Judging by news coming out in the press, we are going in the right direction. The superyacht area is already fully booked and this bodes well for the coming edition. Many of the associates of AENIB  will participate in the Show, we hope they will take the maximum advantage of the opportunity and make as many contacts as possible.

Despite the success of the Show last year, the Organizing Committee has been called to a meeting only twice this year. Somewhat hard to understand, as it was exactly the work by the Organizing Committee that contributed to the success of the show last year. We believe that the only way to make the show grow is to continue on the same path we started on last year: to give real power to the Organizing Committee, pay heed to the recommendations of the exhibitors and adopt a model of cooperation between the public and private sectors, which is beneficial for all of us.

From the 1st to the 2nd of April the II Nautical Congress organized by ANEN will take place in Barcelona. During the event the latest legislative and fiscal changes that affect the nautical sector in Spain will be analyzed and there will also be a chance to generate synergies and promote projects in a specific networking event. In short, a great way to touch base with the current realities of the nautical sector in our country  and a golden opportunity to get up to date with all the issues that are relevant for our companies. It is worth remembering that the members of AENIB will get a 100% bonification of the registration fee for the Congress.

When talking about ANEN we would like to remind you that the elections are approaching in the association. AENIB has been a board member since some years, and we will be again part of the candidature that opts for a re-election. For us it is an honor and a public recognition to be part of the main decision making  body of the most important nautical association in the whole of Spain. We hope to be of best possible service to the nautical companies both in the Balearics as in the rest of the country for years to come.

As you may know, on the 27th of March the election of the new president of CAEB took place.
We, along with the rest of the associations, decided to support the candidature of Carmen Planas, well known for her dynamic approach and leadership qualities. At the same time we take the opportunity to express our gratitude to Josep Oliver for all the work he has done for CAEB during his presidency. Under his skillful leadership great improvements have been achieved for the whole business sector of the islands.
Few weeks have already passed since our Annual General Meeting. Analyzing the event from a distance, we believe it was a great success. Not only for the great number of associates and friends that participated, but also for the institutional support that was given to us from the Balearic goverment. It was also a great opportunity to express gratitude for the work that the team of Bauzá is carrying out in favor of our sector, despite that this work clashes with the obstacles that Madrid launches in our way. Exactly for this reason – for challenging his own party by supporting us, the stance of Bauzá should be appreciated even more. Although we should not forget  that there is still a lot to do to make the Balearic Islands the top destination. At the meeting we made sure the president understands this. We must work with this sole objective in mind.

In the next few days the Ports IB will inform the sector about the use of a new system with a card to access the launching ramps for boats with a trailer. These cards will have an annual cost and can be used for all the ramps managed by Ports IB. Not knowing too much about the system yet, we believe it is a good initiative, as it replaces a previous process, which was both tedious and costly, and allows us to concentrate on more important things like our work. We will keep you informed about this new card and any other possible future actions.

Last but not least we would like to draw attention to the ninth edition of the Nautical and Cuttlefish Fair in the Port of Alcúdia, a traditional event for all of you that love the sea and a decent plate of local food. We encourage you to participate in this growing event and to enjoy the day.
