Recreational Yacht Market Report 2013: registrations grow by 2,7% in the last quarter of 2013

ANEN has recently published the Spanish Recreational Yacht Market Report 2013, based on the data provided by the Direction General of the Merchant Navy, main points of which are summarized in continuation. You can find the complete document behind this link.

- Despite the fall by -19,46% of the annual total, the registrations of recreational yachts stabilize in the second half of 2013.

- in December 2013, always a quiet month for the sector, the situation is confirmed with a slight fall of -4,5% of registrations compared to the result in December 2012.

National recreational yacht market statistics

The recreational yacht market reports a total of 3.902 registrations during 2013, against the 4.845 during 2012, which means a fall by -19,46%. This number has it´s origins in the bad results during the first half of 2013 (-28%), a tendency that turns into an increase by 2,7% during the last quarter, which gives hope for a stabilization of the sector.

By the type of vessels, the inflatable ribs show the smallest fall (-3,3%) in 2013 compared to the previous year, followed by motor yachts (-16,7%), jetskis (-22,5%), semirigid inflatables (-30,6%) and sailing boats (-34,3%).

The motor yachts represent the biggest slice of the market in 2013 with 47,2% of the total. The inflatables rise to the second place with a 17,9% market share (three points more than last year). The semirigid inflatables are in the third place with a 17,4% market share, followed by jetskis which maintain more or less the same market share as in 2012 (11,7%). Sailing boats fall by 1,3 points and occupy 5,8% of the market.

By length, the boats less than 8 m increase their dominance of the market with 90,5% of the demand, as the fall in this segment has been the smallest compared to year 2012 (-17,82%).

The segment from 8 to 12 m fall by -35,17%, while the fall in the category of boats bigger than 12 m is more moderate (-23,4%).

As in the market in general, also in the charter boat market the fall of registrations slowed down in the last quarter of the year. 29 yachts were registered between September and December 2013, compared to the 18 in the same period in 2012.

In total, excluding the smaller boats but including the jetskis, 238 recreational charter vessels were registered, which represent a fall by -15% compared to year 2012.

The recreational yacht market by provinces

The Balearic Islands is the Autonomic Community with the largest share of the recreational yacht market in 2013 (12,35%), but with a fall of -17%, followed by Barcelona with a market share of 9,64% and experimenting a fall by -44,2% in the registrations. Madrid recovers its third place in the market (7%) and a fall of registrations by -5,86.

Behind them come Girona with 6,54% share of the market and a fall of -11,76%; Cadiz (6,46% market share and fall by -28,2%), and Málaga (6,20% market share and fall by 14,79%).
