The recreational craft registrations increase by 12,80% during the first three quarters of the year

During the September 2014 the increase is 6,20% more than in September 2013.

- From January to September 2014, 3.756 recreational craft have been registered in Spain, 426 more than in the same period last year.
- By the length of the yachts, a stronger growth is noticeable in the segments above 12 m. The registrations of vessels above 16 m increase by 48%, and the segment between 12 and 16 m grow by 28,80%.

- The Balearic Islands register the biggest growth up to September this year - 35,66%, with 582 registrations, followed by Barcelona with a 23,60% growth and 419 registrations.

The recreational craft market in Spain shows a total of 3.756 new registrations in the period between January and September this year, which indicates a growth of 12,80% compared to the same period last year.

The month of September, which marks the end of the nautical summer season in Spain and therefore the closure of the transactions taking place in the summer,  shows also positive numbers with a 6,20% growth compared to September last year. In September a total of 240 vessels were registered compared to the 226 last year.

The information is extracted from the "Recreational Market Report. January-September 2014" edited by ANEN and based on the information collected by Direction General of the Merchant Navy.

Nationwide statistics

By length, the vessels above 16 m continue growing most in 2014, with 37 new registrations between January and September, 48% more than in the same period in 2013 (25 registrations). The segment between 12 and 16 m shows a second largest increase (28,80%), with 85 registrations, compared to the 66 in the same period in 2013.

The smallest vessels  - up to 8 meters, continue occupying the biggest market share at 90,20%, registering a growth of  12,80 % in the analysed period
and with a total of 3.388 registrations. Also the segment between 8 and 12 m grows, although in smaller measure - 4,24% with 246 registrations compared to the 236 in the same period last year.

By the type, the jet skis and inflatables continue to be the most sought after vessels between January and september 2014, with a growth of 50% and 640 new registrations in both segments.

The semirigid inflatables come in second place, with a growth of 28,82% and 751 registration compared to the 583 in the same period last year. The sailing boat registrations grow by 20,62% with 234 vessels against the 194 in the same period in 2013.

The motor boats occupy the largest share of the market (42,52%), although they grow to a lesser extent than the other segments (3%) with 1.597 registrations compared to the 1.551  in the same period last year.

Charter market stays positive and registers a growth of 56,20% by the end of September 2014 compared to the same period last year. In total, 353 charter yachts have been registered in Spain during this period, compared to the 226 registered between January and September last year.

The most popular boats for charter are the under 8 m ones with a markets share of 85% and 300 new registrations. This segment grew by 53% between January and September this year.

At the same the above 16 m boats continue growing (128%) with 16 registrations against the 7 in the same period last year.

By the type of vessels, motor boats are the ones growing most in the charter section - 266% with 22 registrations, compared to the 6 registered between January and September last year.

They are followed up by jet skis which grow by 61%, and are the most sought after with 300 registrations compared to the 196 in the same period last year. Lastly, the sailing boats for charter use grow by 30,5%, with 30 registrations compared to the  23 between January and September 2013.

By regions, the Balearic Islands, Barcelona and Cadiz continue at the top of the recreational boat market. The Balearic Islands, with the biggest market share of 15,50%, grows by 35,66% (582 registrations until September this year compared to the 429 in the same period last year).

Barcelona comes in the second place, with a 11,16% market share and increasing the registrations by 23,60% (419 between January and September 2014, against the 339 registrations in the previous year).

Cadiz continues in the third place, with a 7% market share and growth of registrations by 25,84% (263 between January and September 2014 compared to the 209 registered in the same period in 2013).
