Letter from the President - April 2013.

We have noticed with satisfaction that over the recent weeks our sector and also AENB have figured prominently in the press, thanks to our involvement both in the organization of the Palma Boat Show as well as in the Nautical Sector Working Group along with the authorities. We also take the opportunity to remind our associates of the anual Nautical and Gastronomical Fair of the Cuttlefish, to take place this month in Alcudia. We would like to invite all companies to participate in this traditional event. The new Board of Directors of AENB had its first meeting in March. It was a very productive meeting, resulting amongst other things in formation of various working groups. Next week a very important event on a national level will take place in Madrid: The 1st Nautical Congress, organized by ANEN.

The high season is about to start and some of our biggest challenges are coming to fruition. On one side the modernization of the Palma Boat Show, and on the other our participation in the working group at the highest political level, where the future of our sector is being discussed. Each and every one of you who trust AENB to represent your company has made fullfilling these objectives possible. We have written loads and loads about the new boat show: we have explained how it will be capable of attracting different segments of public and clients, how it will draw the attention of both the national and international press, bring in more professionals etc. And we will continue doing it because the project is really exciting. It is a project born from your ideas and your feed back over what did not work in the old boat show and how things could be improved. At AENB we would like to encourage you to participate in making Palma, and Balearics in general, the nautical capital of the Mediterranean, with the Palma Boat Show as the launching pad and the International Nautical Week with all its activities supporting it. Please don’t forget that as an associate of AENB you will get a 15% discount on the prices of exhibition space at the show.
At the beginning of the month the conclusions of the Nautical Sector Working Group, of which AENB forms an active part, were presented to various government members. One of our tasks in the group is to defend one of the most vital aspects of our sector: the necessity to have a regulated and distinctive profesional training. We truly believe that the day when we start to employ technicians that have qualified through this professional training is getting closer, without any threat to the skilled professionals that are employed by our companies at the moment. It is an example of how the nautical sector of the Balearics strives to create wellbeing in the community, and part of that wellbeing is the creation of jobs.

On the 13th of March the first meeting of the new board of directors of AENB took place. The creation of the following working groups was approved: EU Working Group, Charter Group, Nautical Schools, Professional Training and Palma Boat Show. With the help of the working groups we’ll seek a better efficiency when it comes to planning our strategies and taking actions. They are also a way of involving our associates in the decision making. We’ll keep you posted on any news as we go along.

The 1st National Nautical Congress, organized by ANEN, will take place from the 11th to 12th of April in Madrid. We are going to be there and we encourage our associates to participate as well. Not only for its importance within the national nautical business environment, but also because we believe the issues to be debated there will help us in our day to day as entrepreneurs. AENB, as a member of ANEN, is able to pass on a discount of 50% of the registration fee to all our associates..

From the 20th to the 21st of April the Nautical and Gastronomical Fair of the Cuttlefish will take place in the Port of Alcudia. From AENB we encourage all the companies and professionals to participate. Not only for the economical price (50 €), but also because it is a magnificent opportunity to gain more visibility.
