The fifth edition of the AENB Nautical Sector Awards

The traditional nautical sector awards ceremony of AENB took place after the General Assembly. With the awards AENB honours its members, public personalities and institutions that have most contributed to the nautical sector. This year the award for The Public Personality Most Involved With Our Industry in 2011 was presented to Mrs. Rosa Estarás. AENB explains that Mrs Estarás has stood out this year for her tireless work in Brussels to liberate our sector from its many fiscal, legal and administrative obstacles. She is a person who has made it a personal challenge to change the matriculation tax adapting it to the European standard. As Mrs Estarás could not assist at the award ceremony personally due to work commitments, Mrs Francesca Bennassar received the award in her representation.

The award in the category of “Oldest Member”, was presented this year for the chandlery Multimarine – the company was founded in 1988 and from early on has been associated with AENB. Representatives of the association explain that “like so many of us, Mr Olmo saw in the nautical sector a way to build a future, and we are not too mistaken to say that he chose well.” We are proud and happy to present this award to somebody who has placed his confidence in us for over 20 years.”

The third award for “The Most Outstanding Career” category was presented to the family Puig from Nautica Elcano. The association explained that "this family forms part of the history of the nautical sector in our community. Mr Marti Puig started at 14 years of age to work at Astilleros Cabanellas, in the Port of Pollensa. He grew up, prospered and in 1965 founded his own business. He has lived through the principal changes of the sector. From the manual and artesan manufacturing of sailing boats (many of which ended up crossing the Atlantic and even sailing around the world) to the arrival of glass fibre and the massive use of eletronics. He is a person to take on as a role model. We can only admire his constancy and passion for work. Now his children, son-in-law and daughter-in-law have taken the charge of the company. A generational change to guarantee the continuation of this beautiful, nautical way of life.”
